Background[]
Gavin Newsom is the governor of California, viewed as a progressive leader for his early stances in favor of same-sex marriage and the legalization of marijuana, although relative to most Democratic legislators in California he is seen as closer to the center.
After the first few attacks of the Able Jihad, Newsom formed an undercover alliance with the Vepturegeng hosts (not knowing they still hosted the Geng), alongside police investigator Cecil Baca, to get intelligence from suspected leader Gene O. Saad. Upon confirming that O. Saad was the leader of the Able Jihad after the Vepturegeng recovered footage of him decapitating and skinning a target, Newsom briefly reinstated the death penalty to prevent him from causing further violence. O. Saad's execution failed after he revealed that he was the host of the Untergeng Genocide and caused a massacre in the prison; Newsom cut ties with the Vepturegeng hosts after this incident, although detective Baca continued to work with them.
